Prof. Volakis has more than 30 years of experience in sensors and sensing, novel metamaterial antennas, RF materials for high performance hardware, ultra wideband beamforming arrays and RF systems integration. He is internationally known for introducing hybrid finite element methods in electromagnetics. His research covers all aspects of electromagnetics, and includes antennas and wireless communications, electromagnetic compatibility and interference, propagation, design optimization, RF materials and metamaterials, multi-physics engineering, bioelectromagnetics, mm-wave front ends for GB communications, THz, radar scattering, and computational methods. More recently, his work focused on miniaturizing antennas and sensors, and RF systems integrations. He has also transitioned several antennas and computational tools to the market.
